Over the past year, Integra Systems, Inc., has provided forensic analysis of a system re-design for the Department of Defense on a very unique wireless VoiP deployment. We helped a major IDN on the East Coast to resolve a 150 square mile EMS deployment. Our expertise provided guidance and subject matter expertise regarding WMTS dropout with an IDN for a West Coast Hospital. Finally we drove what had to happen to enable a wireless medical prototype to be developed for moving a company from angel to venture funding. As on a chessboard we bring all the wireless pieces together in winning way.

While I agree that using www.airmagnet.com and even using Motorola LAN Planner, (predictive modeling), are some of the finest tools in the industry, they are only one part of the equation. The second part is understanding the behavior of clients on the network. For instance, how do you really know if you have enough bandwidth for 200 WLAN enabled patient monitors (which do not eat up a lot of bandwidth), but then add 70 VoIP phones, along with 100 laptops? It has been somewhat a trial and error method, add more and more capacity. It is felt that using WaveDeploy, (former Veriwave), now IxiaCom, should be the gold standard for capacity testing. I also would say in light of IEC 80001 that every IT/CIO that will intend to deploy WLAN enabled medical devices should use this tool to validate the integrity and quality of service of their network. Sounds like I am a paid advertisement for WaveDeploy...I am not! I just know the headaches that a product like this can solve. Been there and done that as they say. Wireless Technology Roadmapping and Planning by Integra Systems

In light of the previous blog stating the problem, Integra Systems is proposing a very methodical approach to the aspect of wireless technology roadmap planning. While this might be unique for the healthcare wireless provider and device marketplace, it is considered best of practice for other vertical markets. I somewhat learned this approach in my previous life at www.johnsoncontrols.com whereby I participated in several as they call them "ideation" sessions.

This unique roadmap planning allows the right technology planning that is aligned with the business process. This can reduce potential costs both from a CAPEX and OPEX. It also can reduce risk from a Qos and security perspective while at the same time improving clinical work flow.

It will be built into a series of modules that are tailored to the specific technology offering or combined as one complete package. Finally, this will be a working model to allow annualized updates as a continued healthcare business process improvement tool. Since the technology curve of wireless just does not stand still!
